The beats per minute (BPM) or tempo of a song can usually be found at the top left of sheet music. When you see a quarter note and a number, that number represents your BPM.
The catch is that not every piece of music includes a quarter note, and a lot of music doesn’t include a number at all. It’s pretty fun to take note of all the different descriptions composers use to communicate the tempo of their piece, like “freely” or “with spirit!”
It’s not so fun, though, when you need to know an actual number. We include a guide in the app with a starting point, and highly recommend trying SongBPM.com if you’re stuck.
You can always change your tempo to find the one that’s best.
